The corresponding standard formulated by Standards Australia to regulate controllable composting degradable materials entering the Australian market is AS 4736 Biodegradable Plastics Suitable for Composting or Other Biological Treatment.
This standard is based on the European standard EN 13432, in addition, it adds the earthworm ecotoxicology test to the ecotoxicology performance requirements.
Specific requirements are:
A Chemical substance limit: specify the low content of organic substances, heavy metals and fluorine in controllable compost materials;
C Disintegration performance: It is stipulated that the controllable composting degradable material must disintegrate into more than 90% within 12 weeks under aerobic composting conditions Debris passing the 22mm sieve;
D Ecotoxicological properties: the specially selected plants reach 90% or more after being fed with compost decomposition substances of controllable compost degradation materials
The original survival rate and biological properties should also meet the original survival rate and biological properties of more than 90% of earthworms after the introduction of compost decomposition substances of controllable compost degradation materials.
