To protect the marine environment, the Panamanian government announced that it will ban the use of plastic bags in supermarkets, self-service shops and general stores from July 20, 2019. Businesses that violate regulations will be fined. However, pharmacies and other stores can gradually reduce the use of plastic bags within 18 months, and large shopping malls such as warehouse supermarkets will complete the replacement of plastic bags within 24 months.
On the streets of Panama City, the capital of Panama, slogans are calling for people to reduce the use of disposable plastic bags.
An official from the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Panama said: "We hope that citizens can use reusable cloth bags instead of plastic bags. The coastline of Panama is nearly 3,000 kilometers long. The government's ban on plastic bags can effectively prevent the increase in the number of plastic bags in the ocean. Contribute to pollution and respond to global climate change."
In the waters of many Latin American countries, marine animals such as turtles, seals, and whales are often killed by swallowing plastic bags or being entangled with plastic products. On the beaches of Panama, you can often see plastic waste discarded at random.
Prohibiting plastic bags and using other eco friendly paper bags or non woven eco bag can reduce environmental pollution. Better protect our environment.
